High Court of Justiciary
The High Court of Justiciary is Scotland's supreme criminal court.
Crimes heard by the High Court are only the most serious crimes such as murder and rape.
The High Court also considers criminal appeals from lower courts.
The High Court uses Solemn procedure with a judge and a 15 member jury. The jury decides the verdict and the Judge decides the sentence.
The High Court has the power to impose an unlimited imprisonment sentence (unless limited by statute) and an unlimited fine of any amount can be imposed.
