Income Support
Income Support is extra money to help people on a low income. It’s for people who don't have to sign on as unemployed. Whether you qualify or not and how much you get depends on your circumstances. For example you must be:
- Aged between 16 and 59.
- Work less than 16 hours a week on a low income.
- Aren’t in full time study.
- Don't get Jobseeker's Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance.
- Don't have savings above £16,000
- Live in Great Britain
You can claim for income support by telephone or online.
Income Support has been replaced by the Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) on grounds of sickness or disability. New claims for Income Support will be transferred to ESA over time.
