RAH Children's Ward Avoids Closure

Renfrewshire Law Centre is pleased to report that the local NHS Board's proposal to close the Children's Ward at Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley, has been withdrawn owing to campaign pressure by patients' families and other interested local parties. RLC was consulted on the legal process therefore is glad to see this victory for local community justice where the health and wellbeing of so many young people was at stake.

RLC invited website users to sign the local campaign petition earlier this year...

Paisley Snail Cafe Site Reborn

Renfrewshire Law Centre, the University of the West of Scotland and the Faculty of Advocates are pleased to report that the site of the former Wellmeadow Cafe, birthplace of the world-famous legal case of Donoghue v Stevenson (subject of the RLC/UWS/Faculty of Advocates joint International Conference of 25 & 26 May 2012) is currently undergoing refurbishment thanks to the support of Renfrewshire Council, Co-Operative Funeral Care and Reid Kerr College, with buidling work being undertaken at the site itself and restoration of a commemorative bench nearing completion at the College.

New Friday Drop-In Surgery

Renfrewshire Law Centre will be offering a new Drop-In Surgery on Friday mornings with the first session scheduled for Friday, 3 February 2012.

Tuesday Drop-In Surgery sessions will cease, with the last taking place on Tuesday, 24 January 2012.

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday Drop-In Surgery sessions are unaffected, as in the Friday Helpdesk at Paisley Sheriff Court.

It is hoped that this new arrangement will enhance our availability to service users by spreading the Surgery times over a broader number of days and by including a morning session, whereas in the past all sessions have been afternoon-based.

RLC Lawyer Seconded to SCRA

9th January 2012

In January 2012 Iain McLean, RLC Consultant Solicitor, who has a wealth of experience in children's law, among other areas, went on sabbatical from the Law Centre in order to take up secondment with the Scottish Children's Reporter's Administration (SCRA). Accordingly, he will no longer practise from these offices on a day-to-day basis until further notice.
